Hey House of Cabelo fans. Have you ever wanted to change up your look without completely changing your color or cutting off a ton of length? Well in this months blog we are showing you 5 simple changes you can make to your hair while still feeling like yourself.
1) Change up your part.
Changing the way you part your hair is the easiest and fastest way to change up your look. If you are usually a middle part kind of girl try a side part or vice versa.
2) Try a faux bob
If you have long hair and are still hesitant about cutting it, trying a faux bob is an awesome way to give a shorter cut a test drive. All you have to do is use one pump of the Davines Oi, run through dry hair, to smooth the flyaways. Then loosely braid your hair securing it with an elastic the same color as your hair. Then tuck the braid under your faux-bob, securing the braid and loose hair with a bobby pin.
3) Add random pieces of color using Flamboyage
Flamboyage is a technique created by our Italian haircare line Davines. It uses a tape like system to pick up random pieces of hair to be highlighted. The results are very natural looking and will give your hair that perfect sun-kissed look. This technique is only used in Davines salons, so it is a very exclusive service.
4) Rock a Fringe
Adding bangs is a perfect way to spice up your hair without sacrificing your length. They can frame your face and even make you look younger. There are lots of different types of bangs, you can try light and wispy or go for a bolder more blunt look. Your H.O.C. stylist can help determine the best look for you.
5) Embrace your natural texture
Last but not least, rock what you got! It seems we always want the opposite of what we have, but its time to start embracing your natural texture. Instead of fighting with your hair in the morning try letting it go natural. House of Cabelo offers a wide range of products that can help support your natural texture. Got naturally straight hair? Try some of our Davines Salt Spray at the roots to give you some lift. Or if your natural curls seem out of control try using our Neuma Argon treatment through the ends to add some polish and more shine.
The World Wide Hair Tour was held in Paris May 26-28th. The main event was held at the famous Folies Bergere. On stage, some of Davines rockstars performed the latest and greatest trends in cutting, coloring, and styling. The Davines Artistic team was built of Director Angelo Seminara, the British team Allilon, Samuel Rocher, Aldo Signoretti, Brian Suhr, and Kirsten Ganer-tolsoe Demant. Each collection was breath taking and innovative, we saw edgy short cuts, long braided up-styling and vibrant colors. The cohesive theme of the show was a ” Midnight In Paris”, from the venue to the collections staying in trend with the 20′s.
My favorite part of the show was The World Style Contest. This part of the show allows stylist from all over the world to compete in and have a chance to show their collection at the next World Wide Hair Tour. The dedication and passion of each stylist was truly amazing. They have to summit an application a year in advance and work towards their vision. Congrats to this years winner from South Africa, Christilena Erasmu. I look forward to seeing the collection next WWHT.
We also had an opportunity to see and play with the new product collection MORE INSIDE. It’s the new styling line: craft products to give shape to creative expression. We are so excited for this beautiful product to hit North America. We will keep you all posted, it will not disappoint.
I’d like to thank Davines for planning and choosing such a lovely city and venue to support such a show. It was well organized and the hard working staff of Davines kicked butt. We had an opportunity to vote for the next WWHT. I voted for RIO, BRAZIL. We will see!!!!
A New Colour
Davines presented its new colouring without ammonia in a class this last week at House of Cabelo. The system is revolutionary opportunity to give infinite possibilities for big, vibrant ideas.
A world of new potential is opening up for salons and their customers; a precious gift to obtain chromatic nuances which generally only Nature manages to create in a blend of creativity and scientific intelligence.
Inspired by the multi-coloured world of insects with their sublime amalgamation of shapes, colours and light, and the scientific potential of carotenoids and melanins, Davines has turned the world of colouring upside down for salons, at last offering a way to work with pure
colour and transform it into brand new results, with maximum comfort for customers and full respect for the hair’s structure.
An authentic emblem of Sustainable Beauty, A NEW COLOUR is an innovative system in 3 components, for permanent colouring with truly extraordinary results which avoid the use of ammonia, making use instead of the properties of natural active ingredients which are carefully
balanced. A versatile system designed to work on target, guaranteeing excellent performance with extreme simplicity in use and no waste, whether covering white hair, lightening or darkening or changing reflects.
The strong point of the formulations, the same colourings used by Nature to create its chromatic glory day after day: carotenoids – vegetable pigments with an antioxidant action (that influence the colouring of various creatures including insects), and vegetable melanin, an antioxidant
and anti-free radical, extracted from the date palm. To create the alkaline environment on the hair necessary for the pigments to penetrate, Davines
laboratories have replaced ammonia by monoethanolamine (MEA), a hydro-soluble, biodegradable biological substance, completely odourless, boosted by a synergy with metasilicate, a mineral quartz agent with remarkable light refraction capacity.
A formula revolution that represents a turnaround for colour services, bringing the stylist’s creativity to the fore and simplifying the technique, with the certainty of a result with multiple plus points: a service that is enjoyable and gentle, free from unpleasant effects and odours; the impact of the colours, velvety, intense and multi-faceted; the poly-sensorial fascination of hair that is soft, hydrated, and lastingly shiny.
A high-level performance which fully satisfies the need to find in the salon products and services that are safe, pleasant and innovative.
Available in 43 different shades, A NEW COLOUR comes packed in a style that is anti-conventional yet refined, entrusting its colour message to contrasting black and white, the non-colours par excellence, which gives the packaging a timeless solemnity and opens the way to infinite creative
possibilities in tones without overpowering them.
The attention to detail reflects the company’s ethical and aesthetic values, the special graphics designed by hand,
the choice of strictly eco-sustainable materials (aluminium, PE, FSC-certified paper, vegetable-based inks), the emphasis on quality and scientific rigour in the premium formulation.
The result is a striking image, highly dignified, which makes the very most of Davines’ new colour frontier more than ever before.
Davines kicked off its annual World Wide Hair Tour of 2012 earlier this year in one of the hottest, most fashion forward cities in the world Miami, FL. Over 1,500 stylists from all over the world came together for two days full of inspiration, education and hot hair from Davines’s top artists including Angelo Seminara, Cristiano Cora, and the Davines North American Artistic Team.
The most innovative cutting and color techniques were on show including live demonstrations of Flamboyage, A new revolutionary highlighting technique, created by Angelo Seminara for Davines.
“Flamboyage, the innovative colour service that enhances natural reflects by spontaneously blending bright and saturated tones with natural bases, to create super-rich reflect patterns all along the hair length, whilst offering unprecedented creative freedom to hairdressers and colourists.”
The House of Cabelo is the first salon in the Tri Valley to bring this innovative technique to our clients. Since the WWHT, we’ve performed this new revolutionary approach to natural looking colour on many of our clients and they are thrilled with the results! We invite you to check out the Flamboyage video on YouTube and schedule an appointment with your favorite stylist to experience it for yourself.
It was awesome to feel part of the Davines family and global community. We left Miami feeling inspired and excited to bring what we learned from world-renowned artists to our clients in the East Bay. We’re eagerly anticipating WWHT 2013 in Paris!
Every morning when I walk into the door of our downtown Pleasanton salon, House of Cabelo, I’m reminded of how far we’ve come. We opened the House of Cabelo in January of this year, a culmination and vision of what we like to call bringing the “urban to the suburban”.
Our boutique salon is a reflection of our journey as stylists with upscale décor and modern design. The walls are adorned with rich colors and unique artwork from Darla Teagarden. Cutting edge equipment, gourmet treats, and personalized service turn an ordinary hair appointment into the ultimate personal experience.
I’m grateful to be working with such talented and motivated stylists, a total of nine, both veteran and new to the business, who share a common vision to break new boundaries in expertise, excellence, and a commitment to offering sustainable beauty products to our customers.
On the topic of environmentally friendly hair care, The House of Cabelo is thrilled to have developed strong relationships this past year with two styling and color lines that focus on health, beauty, and sustainability.
- The Davines hair care philosophy takes inspiration from beauty, nature and tradition. Davines’ shampoos, conditioners, and styling products benefit more than just hair, they create products with sustainable packaging made from renewable energy sources.
- Neuma brings beauty, health and well being to hair. Their collection of professional performance, naturally healthy, organic, and sustainable beauty products, care for our clients hair and the earth.
As we approach the close of 2011, I want to extend a personal thank you to those of you who have contributed to our success. We are truly thankful for the referrals and look forward to an exciting 2012!
Check back in January as Andrea and I will attending the Davines World Wide Hair Tour in Miami and will be sharing some the latest trends in international hair design.

Peacock feathers represent pride, and by extension, nobility and glory. Peacocks are also known to eat poisonous plants with no ill effects, making their feathers a symbol of incorruptibility and immortality.
In ancient Greece, the peacock was the patron bird of the goddess Hera. According to myth, she placed “eyes” on its feathers, symbolizing all-seeing knowledge and the wisdom of the heavens.
Hindu mythology associates peacocks with the god Lakshmi. The feathers thus represent his qualities: kindness, patience and good fortune.
Buddhists associate peacock feathers with openness, since the birds display everything when they spread their tails. Buddhists also ascribe great meaning to the bird’s diet of poisonous plants–the ability to thrive in the face of suffering.
